Deadwood Mountain Outfitters has been operating as a big game  outfitter for over 25 years in New Mexico.  I've had the good fortune to become familiar with some of the best hunting territory in the state.  We are known for a high return of clients. Whether you opt for a guided hunt, or a semi-guided camp during the Archery, Muzzleloader, or Rifle season, I work with you for the optimum opportunity in acquiring your game. My camp hands take care of all those chores you don't want to do, or have to do...and will work to keep you in good spirits and laughter at the same time. I provide a variety of hearty home cooked meals.  My camps combine a wilderness experience with many of the amenities of home, including shower facilities.  I don't make promises that I can't fulfill.  Guiding and outfitting hunts in this area is not just a hobby for me, and I take pride in making your trip to New Mexico one that will be and experience you will remember forever.  I heartily extend an invitation to come and visit with us in wild and beautiful New Mexico -- The Land of Enchantment.

Elk Hunts

The areas where we conduct our elk hunting are designated as # 51 and #52 on your New Mexico Big Game Map. They are in the middle of one of the premier elk hunting areas in New Mexico and noted for its considerable percentage of large bulls and an abundance and variety of wildlife. It is an area that you will remember for years to come.  The hunting areas are  accessible by road, with local travel on foot or horseback. The majority of our hunts are by foot. There are no motorized vehicles allowed off designated roads in the Carson National Forest.  The hunting areas consists of timbered land, open parks and meadows, river drainage and some tall peaks. The elevation ranges from 9,000 to 10,500 feet.

My camps are located in the heart of the elk hunting country.  For instance, the camp in area #52 looks into the West side of San Antonio Mountain.  It is a twelve mile drive from U.S. 285 on a single lane gravel road with turnouts, approximately 20 miles NNW of Tres Piedras, New Mexico.   It is nestled into the west side of a timbered ridge, utilizing the southern sun with the trees protecting the camp from northerly winds. There is a 16 x 36 cooking and socializing tent with its own electricity. There are also several 16 X 20 sleeping tents with rugs, electricity and individual sleeping mattresses on cots and propane heaters.

Deer Hunts

We offer archery and rifle hunts for Rocky Mountain Mule Deer.  New Mexico's Mule Deer are known for being first class trophy animals and offer a challenge as well as an unforgettable hunting experience.  Although we can't guarantee a trophy for every hunter, 30-inch racks are not uncommon. Our hunts are conducted in area 2B.

Black Powder (Muzzleloader) Trophy Antelope

Deadwood Mountain Outfitters conducts a trophy antelope hunt during the special black powder season on late August on Area 52.  The weather at this time of year is great, and antelope are plentiful.  Antelope hunts are  not only exciting, but taking one of these fleet-footed animals with a muzzleloader is a great challenge.

Turkey Hunts

Many people don't think of the Southwest as great turkey hunting territory.  The truth is, we offer some of the best Merriams turkey hunting to be found in North America.  We offer camps on private ranches, and you can choose to go with a guide, or if you are up to the challenge, you can call and hunt on your own.
