About Us
We at Deadwood Mountain Outfitters would like to welcome you to our website. We are a small, family run outfitting business located in North Central New Mexico. We take pride in making your trip an experience you will remember forever. Our business is known for a high return of repeat clients. Whether you opt for hunting, fishing, summer pack-in trips or other requests, our camp will do everything to make your trip one you look forward to year after year. Our camps combine a wilderness experience with many of the amenities of home, including home cooked meals, hot showers, and even TV. A 16x32 tent is used for cooking and socializing, while smaller wall tents with generator power and propane heat are used for sleeping quarters for our clients. Guiding and Outfitting are not just hobbies for us – they are a way of life that we very much enjoy living. With that we would like to extend a hearty invitation to come and visit with us in wild and beautiful New Mexico – The Land of Enchantment
Elk Hunts
Most of our Elk Hunts are done in the north central part of New Mexico. Although operating statewide and outfitting in more famous areas such as the Gila, Mt.Taylor and Valle Vidal, the northern units in which we operate in have a very high population of elk which leads to a higher success rate for our clients. Our focus areas located in the Carson National Forest are noted not only for high populations of elk, but with a 40%+ bull to cow ratio, hunters have many opportunities to harvest their animals. These areas not noted for "trophy" elk that other areas we provide, can offer a hunt that gives the first time elk hunter or one of our many repeat clients a chance to harvest their "trophy" elk. Statewide on our elkhunts, we use areas that accessible by road, with local travel by foot or horseback. Some of our clients use ATVS on the main roads to get from camp to their hunting areas,(before doing this, you must first register your ATV with either your state or New Mexico). With off road travel not permitted in areas we use by law, horseback and pack horse is used for all game retreival. Deer Hunts
We offer Deer Hunts statewide for Mule Deer, so whether you prefer Rifle, Muzzleloader, or Archery we use areas that will provide you a chance to forfill your hunt. We have hunted in an area of northern New Mexico for the past 15 years known as the Carraccas Mesa. This area one of the most sought after areas in New Mexico, is known for producing trophy deer every year. The Carraccas has given up many deer for us over these past years, with several trophies over 30 inches. Although we cant guarantee a 30 incher for every hunter, the challange, experience, and opportunity to harvest one of these true trophies bring many of our clients back year after year. Pronghorn Antelope
Pronghorn Antelope hunts in our primary areas are muzzleloader and archery hunts. This hunt may be a little more challenging than other pronghorn hunts we offer, but more rewarding too. We offer this as a guided hunt, sometimes on horseback due to the terrain and timber. Using horses seems to make the skittish antelope a little less wary than the traditional spot and stalk methods. The area we hunt has a good population of bucks in the 80-inch plus range, making this a satisfying hunt for the experienced antelope hunter or the first timer. We also offer rifle hunts for antelope in other areas of New Mexico, where we favor the traditional spot and stalk methods on foot. These areas are more open plains where good optics are essential. Whether it’s muzzleloader, rifle or archery we have the hunt that will make for a very enjoyable experience. Landowner tags for antelope are available for the muzzleloader hunts. Call for availability, prices and dates.
Turkey Hunts New Mexico is a state known for many different species of big game animals. Merriam Turkeys are usually not one of those frequently talked about, however New Mexico has many location and opportunities during the spring to havest one of these georgeous birds. We have access to many areas where there are plenty of wise old gobblers to fill your grand slam or just to fill your tag for the year. Also have land in Texas where we can pursue Rio Grande Turkeys. Texas is known for an overabundance of these birds. Once you have filled your turkey tags, get your bow or gun out and lets go after a few wild hogs! This year we are going to start to offer a turkey hunt back east in Virginia for wise Eastern birds. With many tracks of private land in areas we have hunted in the past we are sure to find an old bird or two that will put your turkey hunting skills to the test. So if it is Eastern, Merriams, or Rios your looking for, contact us for more info to set up your next Turkey Hunting Adventure.
SUMMER ADVENTURES
From late spring throughout the summer we offer pack-in trips into some of northern New Mexicos' most scenic areas. On these high country getaways, we have numerous activities for both a family on vacation or the couple trying to get away from the crowds for the weekend. With these adventures you could take a hike into a high meadow to photograph the wildlife that live in area, or climb out onto a rock outcropping to get that special picture of one of the many views that the mountains offer. If hiking is not for you, lets saddle up horses for the day or half-day trail ride into the back country where we can look for some of the many shed antlers the elk and deer loose on their spring migration back into the high country. Fishing your thing? With numerous small lakes and streams full of trout ready to stretch your line, you could spend a day or more trying to catch these hard fighting fish. And after a full days adventure, come on back to camp, sit up next to the fire, relax and enjoy your time here in the Land of Enchantment. As you can see there are many things to do, and if you have a special interest, including ATV rides, we will do everything possible to forfill your request to make this your vacation of a lifetime.
